On-Location vs Studio Headshot Photography
Hey Vancouver! Today, Let’s discuss the difference between On-Location vs studio headshot photography.
Studio Headshots photographed at my headshot studio in East Vancouver are perfect for individuals or small teams looking to capture their headshots. Here, every light, backdrop, and lens is set just right to make you shine. We work with you to capture your authentic self. There are a few sessions to choose from but the 2 most popular sessions are “The LinkedIn Headshot Session” and the “90-minute Branding Package”
What if you’ve got a bigger team, or maybe you cannot make it to my headshot studio? No worries! I pack up my gear and bring the headshot studio experience right to your workplace. It’s super convenient, especially for those busy teams. I set up and photograph your team’s headshots right in your boardroom. Your team looks amazing without stepping out the door. People will only be away from their work for 5 minutes and will be back to work in a flash!
Now, here’s the cool part. When your team grows, they can pop over to my studio in East Vancouver, and I’ll recreate the same look and feel we captured at your office. Consistency is key! Or, if you prefer, I’m more than happy to swing by your office again for another round of photos.
On-Location vs Studio Headshot Photography
Studio photography is all about controlled environments. We can control the lighting to create a consistent look for your company brand. All the variables can be minimized to create the best possible headshots. We are not reliant on good weather or geography. We are free to create consistent headshots no matter how big your team is or where they are around the globe.
On-location headshots or environmental headshots, on the other hand, bring a slice of your world into the photos. It’s your space, your comfort zone. On-location headshots add a touch of personal branding to your photos. We create studio-quality headshots and portraits anywhere!
Pros and Cons of Studio Headshots
Pros:
- Controlled Environment: In a studio, you have full control over lighting, temperature, and background. This consistency ensures high-quality, uniform images every time.
- Privacy and Focus: A studio provides a private, distraction-free zone, allowing you and your subjects to focus solely on the shoot.
- Convenience of Equipment: All the necessary gear is at your fingertips, from various backdrops to specialized lighting equipment.
- Weather Independent: Rain or shine, a studio session goes on. No weather-related postponements.
- Consistent Style for Headshots: Essential for businesses seeking a cohesive look across all team member headshots.
- Flexibility: It is easier to manipulate the background for graphics or you can simply remove the background.
- No Distractions: Nothing in the background to distract the viewer from your headshot.
Cons:
- Less Environment Variety: You’re limited to the backgrounds and props available in the studio. (Unless you remove the solid colour background and Photoshop in any background you like)
- Space Limitations: Large groups or expansive setups might be challenging in a confined studio space.
Pros and Cons of On-Location Headshots
Pros:
- Natural Environment: Adds authenticity and personality to the photos, especially relevant for personal branding.
- Convenience for Large Teams: Ideal for companies as it minimizes disruption in the office
- Diverse Background Options: Each location offers unique settings and backgrounds, providing a variety of visual aesthetics.
- Dynamic and Engaging: On-location shoots can capture the energy and essence of the subject’s natural environment.
- Story: This can be a stronger image based on your career. It makes sense for a fitness trainer to have their headshot in a gym.
Cons:
- Unpredictable Lighting and Weather: Requires adaptability and sometimes contingency plans for bad weather.
- Time-Intensive Setup: Transporting and setting up equipment at a new location can be more time-consuming.
- Potential Distractions: Public or busy locations might lead to interruptions and distractions during the shoot.
- Limited Control: Less control over the environment can pose challenges in achieving the desired lighting or background.
- Permits and Permissions: You often need permission to photograph in public and sometimes need a permit from the city
Remember, the choice between studio and on-location photography depends largely on the specific needs of your project, your client’s preferences, and the style you’re aiming to achieve. Both offer unique opportunities to create stunning, professional images. Ready to book or need more info? Just shoot me an email at rob@robtrendiak.com! 📷✨
